Careful inspection of your package

First, check the contents of your package. We’re only human, and the occasional small mistake can happen. If anything is missing or incorrect, please don’t hesitate to contact us as soon as possible using the contact form on our Returns & Complaints page.

Preparing the jar

First, prepare the jar. Simply rinse it out and fill it with tap water. The water does not need to be left to stand or boiled. A small amount of chlorine, which will evaporate after a short while, will not harm your marimo.

If your set includes decorative stones, rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove any dust or residue that could make the water cloudy.

Be careful when adding fish. None of the jars in our range are suitable for keeping fish. Learn more in our article about marimo and fish in the same aquarium.

Unpacking your marimo

We pack our marimo in resealable bags. This ensures that they stay thoroughly soaked in water throughout the entire journey and do not dry out. They are such resilient plants that they can survive even several weeks in transit. However, keep in mind that marimo are always happiest when kept in water and exposed to gentle light.

After taking the marimo out of the bag, gently squeeze and roll them underwater in a sink. This not only rinses away any dirt and residue that may have accumulated during transport, but also helps restore their natural shape, which may have become slightly deformed during the journey.

Then place the marimo in the glass jar.

Choosing the right spot

Marimo do not like being exposed to strong light for long periods of time. We therefore recommend choosing a spot away from direct sunlight and not too close to a window. Keeping marimo on a windowsill for an extended period can slowly harm them. It is also best to keep them away from heat sources.

If you avoid these unsuitable locations, your marimo can enjoy a long and happy life. For more comprehensive information about marimo, see our article What is marimo and how do you care for it?
